previous 2/10 next 4/10  Midgard 0 - 1 Wetzikon (384880535)

42777 spectators had found their way to Valhalla, despite the heavy rain. Joachim Hervé was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Mustafa Azerovic and Nedo Martinelli. Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this Zürich derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents. Midgard had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Starters: Filgueiras - Malvárez, Frigan, Zumbühl - Hann, Dubois, Veltri, Maneval - Šutliak, Ahveninen, Castro.

Wetzikon started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Hausen - Fristensky, Hellenbrand, Goldmann - Klerkx, Pesten, Berardi, Roche, Salerno - Sáez, Taylor.

The strategy for Wetzikon was to use their ability to press. A. Maneval spent most of the time in a heap on the ground today, his normally rapid movement hindered by the slippery pitch. Wetzikon's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave I. Šutliak from Midgard a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 35 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! G. Hausen's knee will be throbbing for days, but thankfully for Wetzikon, he bravely continued in the match. It was 0 - 0 at the break. Possession was split evenly between the teams.

Wetzikon's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle. Midgard's B. Castro got himself booked for a foul. I. Ahveninen was uncomfortable with the soggy pitch as he couldn't move the ball around with his usual grace. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Wetzikon's B. Goldmann after 85 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead. Neither team was controlling the possession at this point in the match, with the stats showing a 50:50 split.

Midgard's top performer was clearly I. Šutliak. L. Dubois was a disappointment, however. D. Taylor performed admirably for Wetzikon. W. Klerkx on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 1.
