Due to an all-day shower, 36761 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at
Cathédrale Caroube.
Shimon Goldstein was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Bartosz Klimczyk and
Lajos Bartus.
Karobey had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
They fielded: Carotta - De Angelo, Terranova, Giuliati - Pestre, Arthaud, Baiano, Atabey, Marino - Sassanelli, Gaias.
Münchenstein started off with a 4-5-1 lineup.
Starters: Marcon - Raynaud, Smojver, Çebiç, Giulianelli - Goldstein, Merkler, Brasser, Crash, Weidkuhn - Jacquat.
P. Marino did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch.
Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 25 minutes into the match left Münchenstein's
G. Jacquat completely free to score. 0 - 1 for the visitors.
After a fatal mistake from the away team's right side defence 28 minutes into the match, an alert
F. Sassanelli bagged the ball for Karobey, levelling the score to 1 - 1.
Karobey broke through on the left 29 minutes into the game, with
S. Arthaud firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 2 - 1 lead.
After 32 minutes, Karobey's
F. Baiano fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit!
43 minutes into the match, Münchenstein's
E. Goldstein demonstrated his famed speed as he raced past his marker and passed the ball to
G. Jacquat who chipped it in for 2 - 2.
Some great play up the middle by Karobey led to a chance for
F. Baiano to score after 43 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar.
2 - 2 was the score after the first half.
Karobey had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
Thighs bulging,
P. Gaias charged past the weaker players, seemingly oblivious to the rain.
Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 57 minutes into the match, and
F. Raynaud wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 2 - 3 for the visitors.
77 minutes into the match, Karobey's
B. Atabey maneuvered his way around the opposition on the left flank, delighting the crowd with his twists and turns. The effort paid off as the ball found the back of the net, evening the score at 3 - 3.
83 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
G. Jacquat, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide.
Karobey's
F. Sassanelli tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders.
After 85 minutes,
S. Çebiç sent the corner kick right to
E. Merkler who headed it sharply past the keeper. 3 - 4!
The crowd was on its feet 85 minutes into the match, as Karobey's
G. Giuliati found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 4 - 4 equaliser.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Karobey, with 55 percent of the ball.
Karobey's top performer was clearly
P. Gaias.
F. Baiano turned in a dismal performance, however.
Most important Münchenstein player was
G. Jacquat.
On the other hand,
M. Smojver's play was disheartening.
The match ends 4 - 4.
