previous 10/10 next 2/10  Drüeggli 1 - 1 Unbesiegt (384920100)

Clear skies welcomed the 25260 spectators who had made their way to Arena Drüeggli. Jochem Kap was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Tony Stevens and Peter Börjesson. The derby had been the talk of St. Gallen all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium. Drüeggli started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Starters: Peertz - Reber, Meneghello Pisi, Frias - Di Donato, Olafsen, Sumara, Ehnsten, Duhamel - Scolozzi, Jedlička.

Unbesiegt tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players took the field: Kralj - Sall, Fürst, Zeidner - Nyström, Yassuda, Bosisio, Berrocal, Boursier - Badocchi, Marfuggi.

The Drüeggli free kick 15 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of M. Di Donato, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 1 - 0! Drüeggli put in a good effort on the right, but M. Di Donato saw his volley fly wide of the mark 19 minutes into the game. Unbesiegt had a chance to level the score as S. Fürst suddenly found himself free in the middle of the box with only the keeper to beat, but he misjudged the finish, and only managed to hit the bar. J. Nyström made a good effort at breaking through on the right, but the home team's left defence cleared the ball to a corner. The referee showed Unbesiegt's S. Fürst the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Drüeggli were forced into a substitution as B. Meneghello Pisi couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing P. Partein to come in off the bench. The visitors almost came back with an equaliser 35 minutes into the match after a good combination down the middle, but when G. Zeidner tried to finish the attack, he couldn't deliver the shot hard enough to seriously challenge the keeper. It was 1 - 0 at the break. Drüeggli had most of the ball, with 52 percent of possession.

The home side's W. Sumara came close to extending the lead 62 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but S. Kralj managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. P. Badocchi of Unbesiegt received a yellow card after 73 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. The crowd was silenced 75 minutes into the match as the visiting team's B. Marfuggi came in from the left, levelling the score to 1 - 1. Possession in this half belonged to Drüeggli, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.

I. Frias performed admirably for Drüeggli. On the other hand, P. Partein's play was disheartening. Unbesiegt's top performer was clearly B. Marfuggi. However, S. Kralj made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 1 - 1.
