Due to an all-day shower, 30693 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at
Techpunkt.
Sébastien Armand was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Sinforoso Achoqalla and
Michal Rosocha.
Techniko tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
Lineup: Moulin - Rijo, Di Mambro, Ingrassia - Favre, Tauriello, Corrias, Kjær, Saylu - Romero López, Elkins.
REB had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
Starters: Renzi - Balzaretti, Ravestein, Even, Tereshchatov - de Bever, Campanile, Babiarczyk, Weissberg - Doumas, Zázik.
Techniko clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle.
K. Babiarczyk spent most of the time in a heap on the ground today, his normally rapid movement hindered by the slippery pitch.
It was obvious that team Techniko had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
Many thought
Q. Romero López ought to have been awarded a penalty 16 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
A. Renzi after a determined run through the middle.
After 17 minutes,
A. Ingrassia came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Techniko the lead.
Techniko's
T. Kjær saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 20 minutes.
The visitors'
S. Ravestein was alert after a cross coming in from the left, levelling the score at 1 - 1 after 34 minutes.
Techniko fans held their breath as
T. Kjær scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 2 - 1!
The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 1.
Possession in this half belonged to Techniko, who controlled the ball 57 percent of the time.
After 50 minutes, following yet another great corner,
C. Tauriello's flick on at the near post reached
M. Corrias, who was just wide with his snapshot - the ball went out for a goal kick.
The home side's
M. Corrias came close to extending the lead 68 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but
A. Renzi managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop.
After 70 minutes,
F. Rijo put Techniko ahead 3 - 1 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
M. Even from REB a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 78 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
S. Ravestein had a couple of good opportunities to reply, but the home team's keeper
G. Moulin was simply unbeatable.
82 minutes into the match
B. Saylu put Techniko ahead 4 - 1 with a truly marvelous free kick.
By now, the players in Techniko felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
Techniko claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 56 percent.
Most important Techniko player was
M. Corrias.
A. Ingrassia turned in a dismal performance, however.
The most dominating REB player was without a doubt
K. Doumas.
However,
A. Renzi made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 4 - 1.
