previous 10/10 next 2/10  Dardania 1 - 0 Internationale (384991202)

25222 spectators had found their way to Station Dardania, despite the heavy rain. Hans Joelsson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Faouzi Foliot and Şükrü Ersev. Dardania had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation. Starters: Naukkarinen - Bonvicino, Barfis, Dieleman, López, Serbelloni - Ferreira Santos, Afonso Oliveira, Juel - Lundorff, Maier.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Internationale. The following players had been chosen: Andersson - Klisiewicz, Brzić, Martins, Germanà - Renteln, Cirieño, Varrel, Hirsing - Katzav, Hainzinger.

Many thought T. Lundorff ought to have been awarded a penalty 34 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around J. Andersson after a determined run through the middle. R. Dieleman was struggling to make the ball dance with his usual trickery and panache, and the opposing players had little trouble shutting him down in these muddy conditions. After 39 minutes, the defensive line of Internationale created a counterattack through the middle that gave E. Hainzinger a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. Halftime score was 0 - 0. Dardania enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 59 percent of possession.

Dardania broke through on the left 49 minutes into the game, with T. Lundorff firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. With 70 minutes played, the Internationale coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. M. Monaco Vito came on, A. Katzav had to leave the fray. Internationale's A. Germanà left the field after 77 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was R. Pedrero. N. Renteln, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass. With 80 minutes played, Dardania's V. Barfis almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. Internationale needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 83 minutes T. Varrel made way for B. Garbati. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Dardania, with 53 percent of the ball.

The most dominating Dardania player was without a doubt A. Serbelloni. T. Afonso Oliveira turned in a dismal performance, however. Internationale's top performer was clearly M. Monaco Vito. Z. Brzić on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 0.
