The crowd of 10937 turning up at
Old Corona Stadium today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Eric Chavatte was the appointed referee.
People from all over
Zürich had joined up for the derby.
Kickers decided to use a 5-3-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Győző - Witschar, Liikamaa, Thiébeaux, Leal Santos, Aabo - Salzillo, Jespersson, Giannazza - Sulwiński, Barragan.
A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for F.C.S..
The following players had been chosen: Bemelmans - Castro, Zumsteg - Stickelmaier, Silletti, Janas, Leikkola, Paepcke - Ferreira, Loeliger, Heyngenstaedt.
The wings were the focus of most of F.C.S.'s attacks today.
A questionable penalty 16 minutes in gave the home side the lead, 1 - 0. The visitors' goalie didn't stand a chance as
N. Salzillo knocked the ball home.
After 16 minutes, F.C.S. were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise.
A. Paepcke did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans.
21 minutes in, Kickers's
N. Salzillo received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
Kickers's
K. Witschar had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 22 minutes having been played.
J. Rinnofner was the replacement.
The rain made it hard for players like
K. Leikkola to show their technical control of the ball on this soggy day.
After 30 minutes, F.C.S. switched
P. Janas with
W. Rimmele, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch.
F.C.S. needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 40 minutes
T. Ferreira made way for
J. Balta.
1 - 0 was the halftime score.
Kickers enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 59 percent of possession.
Kickers made it 2 - 0 as
P. Barragan got a touch to the floated corner kick and flicked the ball to
Å. Aabo who whipped a low drive in off the far post.
The players of Kickers now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
T. Sulwiński could have put Kickers up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 56 minutes.
F.C.S.'s
W. Heyngenstaedt was shown a yellow card after 65 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Players in F.C.S. heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead.
Coming in on the left,
W. Rimmele did everything right to get a goal for F.C.S. after 77 minutes, but his finishing shot was stabbed clear by the keeper.
Kickers's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack with 78 minutes gone, but
J. Liikamaa's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper.
The coach of Kickers was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 85 minutes,
J. Hedemann came on for
N. Salzillo.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Kickers, with 57 percent of the ball.
T. Sulwiński performed admirably for Kickers.
However,
M. Győző made a disastrous appearance.
F.C.S.'s top performer was clearly
J. Balta.
K. Leikkola turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 2 - 0.
