previous 5/10 next 7/10  Karabük 1 - 5 Calvinball (385018538)

The 6722 spectators at Türkish Arena were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Gabriele Ciullo was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Orell Bialac and Nick Traunfellner. Karabük tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. Lineup: Utelli - Sommers, Ryden, Canziani, Holm - Lachat, Sauers, Danasi, Grogger - Ramassamy, Wölfle.

Calvinball started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. They fielded: Church - Victoire, Rafalski, Rymann - Heutingsheimer, Mialhe, Andermatt, Pritchard - Labadessa, Pichereau, Garicaza.

After 14 minutes, Calvinball put themselves up 0 - 1, as F. Labadessa finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. After 19 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for R. Heutingsheimer who increased Calvinball's lead to 0 - 2. After this, you could see that the players of Calvinball were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. F. Grogger's speed was almost enough to give Karabük a goal after 27 minutes, but his nice pass to H. Wölfle was not taken care of properly. Karabük's fans were urging them forward as they tried to get back into the game, and their vocal support was rewarded 40 minutes into the match as F. Grogger ran onto a beautiful ball played through the visitors' defence and slotted it past the keeper to reduce the deficit. 1 - 2. 1 - 2 was the score after the first half. Possession was split evenly between the teams.

R. Andermatt of Calvinball took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 55 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 1 - 3. A corner kick created great disorder in the penalty area with a goal nearly scored by R. Heutingsheimer. At last, Calvinball's D. Garicaza was able to backheel the ball in. 1 - 4. Karabük had a magnificent opportunity after 65 minutes as H. Wölfle hit the ball hard from the edge of the penalty box. However, the shot went wide. The Calvinball free kick 72 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of B. Victoire, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 1 - 5! Karabük claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

Karabük's top performer was clearly M. Ramassamy. M. Utelli was a disappointment, however. Calvinball's best player was F. Labadessa. K. Rafalski turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 1 - 5.
