Niederbayern 3 - 0 Sputnik (385197138)

12000 spectators had found their way to Scaffold, despite the heavy rain. Eugenio Alesse was the appointed referee with assistance provided by José Alberto Durán and Gert Engelen. Niederbayern started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. Starters: Di Grancio - Schlenk, Haneforth, Künzi, Strähler - Knarr, Kaschulla, Lickert, Rocha - North, Litschi.

Sputnik decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. The following players took the field: Rheinheimer - Barthoulot, Ballner, Kapp, Mataloni - Keister, Liaci, Brookshof, Mariéthod - Kuonen, Lorentz.

Thighs bulging, G. Haneforth charged past the weaker players, seemingly oblivious to the rain. B. Künzi, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass. 20 minutes into the game, B. Keister almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. Niederbayern played a good counterattacking move down the left 21 minutes into the match, with G. Lickert finishing well for 1 - 0. The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 22 minutes, T. Brookshof broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper. R. Di Grancio made a great block, though. After 28 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by G. Lickert might have resulted in another goal for Niederbayern. However, N. Rheinheimer made a spectacular save. Niederbayern solidified their lead at the 30 minute mark, as B. Künzi dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 2 - 0. The players of Niederbayern now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Niederbayern's A. Kaschulla was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 38 minutes. Halftime score was 2 - 0. Niederbayern had most of the ball, with 63 percent of possession.

Things were deteriorating for the away team as Niederbayern scored another to make it 3 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for G. Lickert after 58 minutes. Niederbayern's N. Strähler saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 63 minutes. A. Kaschulla should probably have put his team up another goal after 69 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by N. Rheinheimer kept the visitors in the game. Possession in this half belonged to Niederbayern, who controlled the ball 62 percent of the time.

Niederbayern's top performer was clearly E. Litschi. However, R. Di Grancio made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Sputnik player was without a doubt B. Keister. On the other hand, G. Ballner's play was disheartening. The match ends 3 - 0.
