previous 6/10 next 8/10  Metsku 3 - 1 Wednesday (385476741)

Due to an all-day shower, 38497 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at John Wesley. Bruno Penzo was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ludovic Haution and Raul Cunha. Metsku started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players took the field: Ricci - Sáenz Díez, Koblenz, Lemasle - Zeynur, Krause, Urba, Saville, Semeniuc - Leguizamón, Formica.

Wednesday decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. Starters: Siikaluoma - Pérez Frías, Vepsäläinen, Kamet, Hostikka - Domakhin, Raatikka, Chudziak, Reimels - Mukka, Halmeaho.

Metsku saw most attack opportunities on the wings. Wednesday were relying on their ability to counter-attack. A. Kamet was struggling to make the ball dance with his usual trickery and panache, and the opposing players had little trouble shutting him down in these muddy conditions. A. Hostikka didn't let the weather get him down and made some great moves on the pitch in spite of the rain. Metsku's J. Leguizamón got himself booked for a foul. After 29 minutes S. Halmeaho made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to T. Mukka who shuffled it past the keeper. The score was now 0 - 1. With 34 minutes having been played, Metsku scored to make it 1 - 1. A dribble down the left wing, followed by a shot which took a wicked bounce off a defender resulted in the keeper having no chance. Everyone thought it'd been an own goal, but K. Urba was marked down as the scorer. Wednesday's J. Vepsäläinen refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 37 minutes. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 1. Possession in this half belonged to Metsku, who controlled the ball 63 percent of the time.

The home side put themselves ahead 2 - 1 after 62 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from K. Zeynur, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. J. Reimels, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass. Metsku put themselves up 3 - 1 when A. Semeniuc broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. Wednesday's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack with 77 minutes gone, but J. Reimels's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper. A. Semeniuc wanted to play on, but the Metsku coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 84 minutes into the game by A. Mauroy. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Metsku, with 62 percent of the ball.

Metsku's best player was E. Sáenz Díez. However, S. Lemasle made a disastrous appearance. O. Domakhin performed admirably for Wednesday. L. Pérez Frías was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 1.
