Priests 2 - 2 Milon
(385478262)

11-08-2012 20.00
26185 fans braved the pouring rain at
Cathedral of Doom.
Meelis Luik was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Stefan Engström and
Noel Russ.
Priests decided to use a 4-5-1 set up.
The following players took the field: Živec - Aşir, Doerner-Turk, España, Zalesky - Potysz, George, Interdonato, Silva Cardoso, Meckrodt - Pintér.
Milon had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Starters: Brańczak - Gluoksnys, Taylor, Marcoux - Briedis, Kull, Drieux, Virtakoski, Sturz - Guedelha, Hidić.
Priests were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
Today, Milon's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks.
Thighs bulging,
I. Gluoksnys charged past the weaker players, seemingly oblivious to the rain.
Priests had a good opportunity to take the lead as
G. Interdonato came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of
R. Brańczak.
Priests were very close to putting themselves one up after 35 minutes as
L. George got through on the left, but failing in concentration, he shot the ball wide.
Priests took the lead 37 minutes in, as
W. Meckrodt broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper.
After 38 minutes, Milon raised their score by one when
A. Briedis's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by
J. Guedelha. 1 - 1.
Players in Priests heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead.
Priests had a chance to take the lead after
G. Interdonato's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 39 minutes.
It was 1 - 1 at the break.
Priests enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 55 percent of possession.
After 46 minutes, the Milon coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
K. Sturz off the field.
P. Mereta took his place.
J. Virtakoski had a hard time on the waterlogged pitch - his trademark technique was nowhere in sight today.
73 minutes into the match, Milon nearly took the lead, as
J. Guedelha broke through on the right.
Š. Živec made the save, however.
Given a free kick close to the byline, Priests tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
W. Meckrodt slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 2 - 1, 75 minutes into the game.
An accurate cross from
P. Mereta of Milon was met with a wonderful glancing header from
L. Hidić, hitting the inside base of the post before nestling into the back of the net for 2 - 2.
Priests were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Priests, with 57 percent of the ball.
Priests's best player was
B. Silva Cardoso.
C. Potysz turned in a dismal performance, however.
The most dominating Milon player was without a doubt
L. Drieux.
J. Virtakoski on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 2 - 2.
