A scorching day at
Petankkikenttä, where 7667 spectators were in place for today's match.
Andy Goure was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Livio Strässle and
Imanol Báez.
Roottori tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination.
Lineup: Marjusaari - Zirion, Siler, Szigeti, Tuppurainen - Ruottinen, Hanuš, Takaneva, Pérez - Broniarczyk, Anttila.
Jalattomat decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
Starters: Alilu - Bardo, Dessì, Sahar - Michelin, Borromeo, Consorti, Bonazza, Pavel - Valtonen, Olfermann.
Roottori tried to focus their attacks down the middle.
Jalattomat clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle.
After a fine move down the middle
S. Tuppurainen nearly gave the home side a goal after 18 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide.
As
N. Ruottinen had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the Roottori player a red card without batting an eyelid.
In a fantastic display of determination, Jalattomat's
J. Michelin forced himself to his feet, after an opponent viciously knocked him down.
With 22 minutes played
D. Pérez almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide.
Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Roottori, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity.
They were singing the praises of
E. Broniarczyk 27 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Roottori.
31 minutes in, Jalattomat's
G. Bonazza received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
Roottori were forced into a substitution as
S. Tuppurainen couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing
T. Dudok to come in off the bench.
1 - 0 was the score after the first half.
Possession in this half belonged to Roottori, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.
After 46 minutes, Jalattomat switched
C. Pavel with
V. Kalenius, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch.
The bench was restless, and with 55 minutes passed Jalattomat's coach gave
M. Tuunainen the opportunity the player had been hoping for.
A. Olfermann reluctantly left the field.
S. Alilu was the new captain of Jalattomat - handed the armband by the departing player.
E. Broniarczyk should probably have put his team up another goal after 63 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
S. Alilu kept the visitors in the game.
H. Szigeti didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play.
Roottori's
A. Anttila saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 79 minutes.
M. Borromeo neatly controlled the ball after a short corner, and knocked it on to
M. Tuunainen who had the whole net open before him, but only managed to hit the post.
D. Pérez had a fantastic opportunity to put Roottori up another goal 87 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
With 89 minutes played, the Jalattomat coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
R. Hoenderkamp came on,
S. Alilu had to leave the fray.
The Jalattomat captaincy was handed to
J. Valtonen.
Roottori enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.
Roottori's top performer was clearly
C. Hanuš.
H. Szigeti on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Jalattomat's best player was
M. Tuunainen.
J. Michelin turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 0.
