previous 8/10 next 10/10  West 2 - 4 Maxwell (385645456)

3022 spectators arrived at WW Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Narve Halnes was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Hansi Kattner and Elpidio De Vivo. All of Turku was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the derby. West had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Mero - Simarev, Forss, Bintringer, Mustaniemi - Ryhänen, Mes, Ruth, Huikkonen - Tienhaara, Kuokkanen.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Maxwell. Lineup: Siltakoski - Palkki, Bauer, Borman - Isaksson, Reinisalo, Heijnen, Latostenmaa, Kakkonen - Shekhirev, Tanninen.

V. Borman delivered a good free kick from an excellent position 12 minutes into the game, but luck wasn't on Maxwell's side this time and the ball went wide. With 29 minutes played, V. Borman of Maxwell fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. With 36 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as H. Huikkonen flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. The visitors almost came back with an equaliser 38 minutes into the match after a good combination down the middle, but when L. Latostenmaa tried to finish the attack, he couldn't deliver the shot hard enough to seriously challenge the keeper. The visitors' N. Palkki was alert after a cross coming in from the left, levelling the score at 1 - 1 after 40 minutes. Halftime score was 1 - 1. Maxwell had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.

Maxwell's E. Tanninen managed to lose the defenders as he advanced down the right wing and scored, putting the visitors ahead after 61 minutes. 1 - 2. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, F. Shekhirev got himself booked. The manager of Maxwell was not happy. E. Reinisalo of Maxwell took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 63 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 1 - 3. West supporters cheered as good work down the right got the ball to J. Tienhaara who reduced the visitors' lead after 64 minutes to 2 - 3. J. Mero got a fingertip on E. Tanninen's shot from the left 67 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. With 79 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed F. Shekhirev of Maxwell to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 2 - 4. Possession in this half belonged to Maxwell, who controlled the ball 57 percent of the time.

West's top performer was clearly J. Tienhaara. However, M. Bintringer made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Maxwell player was without a doubt E. Isaksson. On the other hand, A. Bauer's play was disheartening. The match ends 2 - 4.
