30-06-2012 21.00
42360 spectators had come to
Gewurztraminer Stadium this cloudy day.
Orv Spaden was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Nathan Deroose and
Leovigildo Bravo.
EXA had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Kint - Le May, Habita, Ménétrier, Antigny, Lapôtre - Bain, Delattre, Jimeno, Hannevold - Degrez.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for leonfootball.
They fielded: Kuznetsov - Santarelli, Kalinin, Kluczniak - Zavaglia, Bonnefoi, Pardo, Carré, Mertins - Bergmann, Moreira.
It was an obvious ambition of EXA to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
Almost all the way down to the corner flag, EXA's
J. Bain somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for
H. Degrez, who struck for 1 - 0.
leonfootball were close to putting the equaliser away after 33 minutes as the opposing defence lost control of the ball to
F. Bergmann in a scuffle towards the left of the goal, but in the end the ball was cleared over the dead ball line.
EXA put themselves up 2 - 0 when
X. Jimeno broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
Coming from the right,
H. Degrez almost managed to score another goal for EXA, but his header was tipped over the bar by the visitors' keeper.
The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0.
EXA had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.
J. Bain wanted to play on, but the EXA coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 59 minutes into the game by
O. Barthe.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the EXA coach let
D. Hervé replace
X. Jimeno after 61 minutes.
The coach of EXA was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 64 minutes,
F. Vassort came on for
H. Degrez.
leonfootball breathed new life into the game with an opportunity to reduce the score after 64 minutes, but the home side's defenders cleared the ball on the line, after a long shot coming in from the left rebounded off the crossbar.
The visitors replied 75 minutes into the game, reducing the home side's lead to 2 - 1, as
H. Moreira dashed up the middle, easily lobbing the ball over the home team's keeper.
After 76 minutes, following yet another great corner,
M. Le May's flick on at the near post reached
F. Vassort, who was just wide with his snapshot - the ball went out for a goal kick.
After 79 minutes, EXA sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached
O. Barthe, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 3 - 1.
EXA claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
M. Delattre performed admirably for EXA.
However,
L. Antigny made a disastrous appearance.
Most important leonfootball player was
F. Bergmann.
H. Zavaglia on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 3 - 1.
