Liiv could have put his team up another goal 21 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post. The rain made it hard for players like G. Di Puccio to show their technical control of the ball on this soggy day. With the scoreboard showing that 32 minutes had been played, Hfc-lyon nearly put themselves up another goal after B. Chevalier came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. After 35 minutes, Hfc-lyon's P. Sáez burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. As the game started to slip away for Brechetière, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. J. Liiv increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 3. By now, the players in Hfc-lyon felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. 0 - 3 was the score after the first half. H. Thadewaldt did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch. M. Liljenflod of Brechetière received a yellow card after 87 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Hfc-lyon claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
