The crowd of 26510 turning up at
Moulin de Boisseau today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Patrik Norrer was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Jeroen de Bruin and
Filipe China.
Brechetière started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Tobai - Kuiper, Boulbeba, Ringheim - Rezende, Apuzzo, Goudal, Ophoff, Di Puccio - Rakovski, Liljenflod.
Hfc-lyon had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Kill - Úlfarsson, Liiv, Goel - Bongrand, Dhieux, Chevalier, Barthel, Liénard - Sáez, Deputado.
Brechetière saw most attack opportunities on the wings.
After 5 minutes, Hfc-lyon's
G. Úlfarsson made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
J. Liiv from Hfc-lyon a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 14 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Unfortunately for Brechetière,
V. Apuzzo was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field.
H. Thadewaldt replaced him.
J. Liiv could have put his team up another goal 21 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post.
The rain made it hard for players like
G. Di Puccio to show their technical control of the ball on this soggy day.
With the scoreboard showing that 32 minutes had been played, Hfc-lyon nearly put themselves up another goal after
B. Chevalier came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save.
After 35 minutes, Hfc-lyon's
P. Sáez burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2.
As the game started to slip away for Brechetière, the manager decided to change the tactical approach.
J. Liiv increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 3.
By now, the players in Hfc-lyon felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
0 - 3 was the score after the first half.
Possession in this half belonged to Hfc-lyon, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.
The home crowd cheered when, after 56 minutes,
P. Sáez's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day.
70 minutes into the game, Hfc-lyon worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch.
Brechetière's
S. Rezende was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 76 minutes.
A. Barthel was, after 85 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper
K. Tobai made the save.
H. Thadewaldt did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch.
M. Liljenflod of Brechetière received a yellow card after 87 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Hfc-lyon claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
Brechetière's top performer was clearly
R. Goudal.
H. Thadewaldt turned in a dismal performance, however.
The most dominating Hfc-lyon player was without a doubt
P. Sáez.
M. Goel on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 0 - 3.
