18-08-2012 21.00
Dark skies made the crowd of 48629 at
Stade Albert Barre a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Edmund Foltyn was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Barry Reilly and
Jørn Wollesen.
Saint-Cannat decided to use a 4-3-2 set up.
They fielded: Boileau - Zemko, Piriou, Florence, Alal - Jourdain, Babou, Ben Khalfallah - Busch, Jóźwik.
Maurs tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination.
The following players took the field: Giannerini - Almenar, Bornhöved, Baiano, Davidsen - Fromage, Visschers, Kornexl, Ben Slimene - Iruso, Motta.
For their match strategy, Saint-Cannat had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible.
Maurs were relying on their ability to counter-attack.
Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 14 minutes into the match, and
J. Motta wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors.
20 minutes into the game,
E. Visschers had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
C. Métairie.
K. Jourdain charged down the left and had a wonderful opportunity to score the equaliser for Saint-Cannat, but the shot went well wide of the goal.
The referee showed Saint-Cannat's
J. Florence the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
After 28 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Saint-Cannat found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to
inadequate.
29 minutes in, Saint-Cannat appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
inadequate.
The visitors'
J. Iruso took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 34 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Maurs.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 2.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Maurs, with 61 percent of the ball.
A review of the gameplan helped Saint-Cannat get back to a
solid organisation when the referee blew his whistle again.
After 54 minutes, the defensive line of Saint-Cannat created a counterattack through the middle that gave
J. Piriou a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
70 minutes into the game, Saint-Cannat seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
passable level of organisation.
72 minutes into the game Saint-Cannat managed a counterattack, but
M. Busch took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper.
After 75 minutes of game time,
T. Davidsen had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but
D. Boileau was in the right place and tipped the ball over for a corner.
84 minutes into the match,
W. Bornhöved came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide.
Maurs had most of the ball, with 60 percent of possession.
Saint-Cannat's best player was
M. Busch.
However,
J. Piriou made a disastrous appearance.
Most important Maurs player was
J. Motta.
W. Bornhöved was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 0 - 2.
