Dark skies made the crowd of 34804 at Stade Jules UCCELLI a little nervous, but the rain held off. Stefan Neagu was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Antoine van Keeken and Anders T. Flodby. INWË decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. The following players had been chosen: van Ierland - Abbenhuis, Pimenta, Besta - Farelo, Warembourg, Trindade, Bruun, Fredhall - Drăgulescu, Olmedo Puig.

The strategy for INWË was to use their ability to press. After 12 minutes, Chaussette's K. Bottin made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. 23 minutes into the match, Chaussette's V. Nougaret demonstrated his famed speed as he raced past his marker and passed the ball to J. Martínez who chipped it in for 0 - 2. The players of Chaussette now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Chaussette increased their lead after 27 minutes when S. Fillol broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay. After 31 minutes, C. Drăgulescu had a good opportunity to reduce the scoreline for INWË with a chance created through the middle, but wasn't cool enough. The ball went miles over the bar. There was concern in the stands when, at the 40 minute mark, INWË's J. Trindade hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch. Some fine movement on the left led to a Chaussette goal after 41 minutes, making it 0 - 4. D. Tordeux was noted down as the scorer. With 42 minutes played, P. Pimenta of INWË fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. After the ball was lifted in from the left, E. Månflod was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 43 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. That Chaussette's S. Mardon has the ability of doing what no one expects him to do was shown as he ran over an opposing defender, snatched the ball and passed to J. Martínez who hit it hard into the wide open goal after 43 minutes: 0 - 5! A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from Y. Prigozhev after 44 minutes, and prevented Chaussette from going up another goal. 0 - 5 was the halftime score. Chaussette had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.

S. Fomin came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over E. van Ierland but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. A drive down the left side allowed E. Månflod to get in close and score another goal for Chaussette after 60 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 6. Chaussette's D. Tordeux had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 62 minutes having been played. C. Monier was the replacement. INWË didn't give in and with 66 minutes played M. Besta was able to make the score 1 - 6 after an attack on the right. Chaussette's S. Fillol got himself booked for a foul. The visitors almost increased their lead after 72 minutes when a sweetly hit free kick looked like it was heading for the top corner. However the keeper managed to get a fingertip to it, sending it over the bar. Possession in this half belonged to Chaussette, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.

INWË's top performer was clearly O. Farelo. E. van Ierland turned in a dismal performance, however. J. Laloux performed admirably for Chaussette. On the other hand, S. Fomin's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 6.
