Dark skies made the crowd of 34499 at
Shaolin Stadium a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Mauro Penteado was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Even Strømsvåg and
Mateusz Słabowski.
Football tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players took the field: Završki - Haj-Omar, Gérard, Dermann - Campestrini, Mérienne, Antonin, Stefanopoulos, Fredon - Pęcak, Saar.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Fresnes.
They fielded: Cankılıç - Alvarenga, Buresch, Utrilla - Fotr, Buga, Bothory-Simolin, Ghanim, Lamiaux - Espinoza, Duranteau.
It was an obvious ambition of Fresnes to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
Football took the lead after 7 minutes as a result of
T. Campestrini's peach of a shot from the right hand side of the box - placed beautifully in the top corner. 1 - 0.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Football's
A. Saar increasing the lead to 2 - 0.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Football lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
With 28 minutes played,
F. Pęcak of Football fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
A well placed corner kick from
A. Haj-Omar was followed by
F. Pęcak's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Football, the score now 3 - 0.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
F. Pęcak squirmed through their central defence after 31 minutes, increasing the lead to 4 - 0.
A. Saar should probably have put his team up another goal after 33 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
B. Cankılıç kept the visitors in the game.
T. Campestrini was ever so close to scoring after an excellent corner was beautifully flicked on by
A. Stefanopoulos, but the ball bounced off the post to safety.
With 41 minutes played,
F. Pęcak could have brought this one home for Football as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high.
The teams went for the halftime break at 4 - 0.
Football enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 55 percent of possession.
Fresnes had a fair chance to reply after 50 minutes due to some fine moves down the left, but in the end
S. Ghanim was slow to keep up with the play and was unable to make it into the penalty box to apply a finish.
After 51 minutes, a well-worked counterattack by Football on the right presented an easy opportunity in front of the goal that was duly converted by
A. Saar to make it 5 - 0.
Fresnes managed to reduce the score to 5 - 1 as
C. Duranteau finished off a well-played combination from the left, easily carving through the defence.
The Football players could smell victory in the air.
L. Fredon wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
J. Carvalhos after 65 minutes.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Football coach let
A. Nicholls replace
A. Saar after 70 minutes.
Football claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.
The most dominating Football player was without a doubt
F. Pęcak.
A. Haj-Omar was a disappointment, however.
Most important Fresnes player was
B. Espinoza.
However,
B. Cankılıç made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 5 - 1.
