previous 4/10 next 6/10  sardu 1 - 3 ASSMB (385966880)

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 20337 to Parc Lescure. Faizal bin Hussain was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Uli Rauchhaupt and Giovanni Tiso. sardu started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Donner - Zadelhof, Martí Tovar, Rubio Gómez - Tarujärvi, Garabajiu, Ognjenović, Hägerbrant, Sörensson - Psihoda, Parra.

A 4-5-1 alignment was the formation of choice for ASSMB. They fielded: Stavlas - Papon, Niedolak, Viandier, Vaz - Pain, Di Tizio, Merhar, Morisse, Hoareau - Lenoble.

sardu clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of ASSMB. A. Viandier's lack of experience almost gave sardu a goal after 27 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms. After some beautiful movement down the left wing, A. Psihoda scored for sardu putting them ahead 1 - 0, after 28 minutes. An accurate cross from É. Hoareau of ASSMB was met with a wonderful glancing header from C. Lenoble, hitting the inside base of the post before nestling into the back of the net for 1 - 1. ASSMB took the lead after 31 minutes making the score 1 - 2. L. Di Tizio placed the ball out of reach for the home side's keeper after a fine move, coming in from the left. Had it not been for one of the home defenders, C. Lenoble would have put ASSMB up another goal 43 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for sardu, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. With 44 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of ASSMB resulted in a counterattack that set A. Merhar free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. It was 1 - 2 at the break. Possession in this half belonged to sardu, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.

É. Hoareau left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 46 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. A. Ponchel was the replacement. 52 minutes into the game a free kick by F. Pain found its way through the home side's poorly assembled defensive formation, making ASSMB's lead 1 - 3. After this, you could see that the players of ASSMB were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. Content with how the game was proceeding, the ASSMB coach let J. Desson replace C. Lenoble after 75 minutes. ASSMB's counterattacks created a good chance for F. Pain on the right after 87 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by sardu, with 62 percent of the ball.

Most important sardu player was M. Garabajiu. Y. Donner was a disappointment, however. ASSMB's best player was A. Merhar. A. Ponchel on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 3.
