9031 spectators had come to
Et un Schnaps comme digo this cloudy day.
Jacinto Baloira was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Borisa Cilinsek and
Arve Bakke.
Choucroute started off with a 3-4-3 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Nörlinger - Reina, Dyoniziak, Jawachi - Vitoux, Cajot, Demarle, Stevens - Cagnon, Rayon, Brault.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Elephas.
Lineup: Niinikorpi - Anghelescu, Muñoz, Eshuys - Bride, Neiva, Kebe, Escaleira, Wandaba - Baltierra, Facchinetti.
Choucroute mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle.
It might be a while before the fans see Elephas's
H. Wandaba again, after he had to leave the field in great distress at the 19 minute mark. He was replaced by
R. Linet.
The guests took the lead 20 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in
R. Linet scoring to make it 0 - 1.
A drive down the left side allowed
Í. Baltierra to get in close and score another goal for Elephas after 32 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 2.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
A. Neiva from Elephas a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 34 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Some fine movement on the left led to a Elephas goal after 38 minutes, making it 0 - 3.
M. Facchinetti was noted down as the scorer.
After this, you could see that the players of Elephas were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
0 - 3 was the score after the first half.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Elephas, with 61 percent of the ball.
Y. Cagnon earned a rousing chorus of cheers from his fans as he seemed to come out of nowhere after 61 minutes to intercept the ball and put it in the back of the net for Choucroute. 1 - 3.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Choucroute's
N. Rayon was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 65 minutes.
J. Poncet was given a chance to change things around.
With 74 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
A. Neiva of Elephas to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 4.
81 minutes into the game, Elephas worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch.
Had it not been for one of the home defenders,
V. Escaleira would have put Elephas up another goal 83 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing.
Choucroute's
K. Vitoux was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 86 minutes.
Choucroute's
J. Poncet finished emphatically to make the score 2 -4 after 88 minutes, after the enigmatic
Y. Cagnon pulled a delightful long pass from his box of tricks to bypass the defence.
Elephas enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 62 percent of possession.
The most dominating Choucroute player was without a doubt
J. Poncet.
S. Stevens on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Most important Elephas player was
Í. Baltierra.
R. Linet turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 2 - 4.
