6630 punters turned up at
Maputo Stadium, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came.
Anders Dalholt was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Pekka Trogen and
Borislav Evtimov.
Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this
Alsace derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Maputo.
The following players had been chosen: Bouchard - Lo, Terseglav, Dugardin, Fays - Rivet, Olofsson, Have, Dreifelder - Bourrin, Fourquet.
RCAchipso decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
Starters: Tournaire - Mareš, Jaunegg, Carboni, Taioli - Gątkiewicz, Hermida, Bakker, Bugia - Ng, Pistarà.
A. Rivet could have put Maputo into the lead after 18 minutes, but the free kick went just wide.
G. Jaunegg behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 19 minutes as he gave the ball away to
F. Fourquet. Lucky for him though, there was no goal.
Given a free kick close to the byline, RCAchipso tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
B. Bakker slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 0 - 1, 20 minutes into the game.
There was concern in the stands when, at the 31 minute mark, Maputo's
T. Olofsson hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch.
With 37 minutes played, RCAchipso's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to
G. Pistarà he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 0 - 2.
0 - 2 was the halftime score.
RCAchipso had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
D. Hermida was, after 62 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper
N. Bouchard made the save.
G. Pistarà increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 3.
By now, the players in RCAchipso felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
With 66 minutes played,
G. Carboni nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar.
G. Pistarà's speed is always a threat when he gets a little room to move, and 73 minutes into the match was no different as he broke free of his man to send a delightful through ball to
D. Ng who knocked it in for RCAchipso. 0 - 4!
After 79 minutes, the defensive line of RCAchipso created a counterattack through the middle that gave
I. Mareš a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
RCAchipso enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 58 percent of possession.
R. Bourrin performed admirably for Maputo.
A. Rivet was a disappointment, however.
The most dominating RCAchipso player was without a doubt
G. Carboni.
C. Tournaire on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 0 - 4.
