previous 8/10 next 10/10  Glamorgan1 0 - 3 Glamorgan2 (386190827)

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and South Glamorgan Stadium saw a crowd turnout of 7000. Marko Halberg was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Andrzej Kurek and Čeněk Lhota. Glamorgan1 decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. The following players had been chosen: Murphy - Crosley, Lloyd, Pitman, Delaney - Geonor, Savage, Ward, Holland - Pepper, Travers.

Glamorgan2 tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players took the field: Kolasinski - Garner, McDonagh, Erskine, Jackson - Busby, Osterburg, Lawson, Osullivan - Carew, Staples.

23 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but J. Osullivan, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide. Good work by the Glamorgan1 defensive line after 24 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found B. Delaney alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. E. Osterburg of Glamorgan2 was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. One of many good crosses from J. Osullivan on the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by D. Busby, who scored for Glamorgan2. 0 - 1 The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave C. Lawson from Glamorgan2 a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 35 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! 0 - 1 was the score after the first half. Glamorgan2 had most of the ball, with 56 percent of possession.

After 57 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed S. Carew to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. Some fine movement on the left led to a Glamorgan2 goal after 67 minutes, making it 0 - 3. S. Carew was noted down as the scorer. Against a lesser team, Glamorgan2 could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 73 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. Had it not been for one of the home defenders, E. Osterburg would have put Glamorgan2 up another goal 76 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Glamorgan2, with 60 percent of the ball.

D. Travers performed admirably for Glamorgan1. M. Murphy was a disappointment, however. Glamorgan2's best player was C. Lawson. On the other hand, G. Jackson's play was disheartening. The match ends 0 - 3.
