Dark skies made the crowd of 35984 at St Joints Stadium a little nervous, but the rain held off. Pavel Bošek was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Edgardo Stringa and Ulf Malmstad. FCM decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. The following players took the field: Pitussi - Hodd, Assis, Faria - Mysłowski, Coelho, Pinheiro, Bernhardswinkel, Batista - Castelão, Tição.

Portela started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Esteves Marques - Green, Manoukarakis, Patrocínio - Arega, Kubiński, Herculano, Bellini, Gomes - Pilão, Ambryszewski.

Portela took the lead 3 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle. P. Arega was the scorer. R. Bernhardswinkel behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 8 minutes as he gave the ball away to P. Bellini. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. The visitors' P. Arega took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 20 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Portela. After the ball was lifted in from the left, E. Pilão was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 27 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. After 32 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed P. Arega to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 3. This third goal completed a hattrick for P. Arega. 35 minutes into the match, P. Arega came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 3. Portela enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 73 percent of possession.

P. Ambryszewski increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 4. E. Pilão of Portela took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 55 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 5. After this, you could see that the players of Portela were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. P. Arega received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 61 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 6. The Portela fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. P. Bellini fired a shot from distance after 69 minutes, but the long shot couldn't find the net for Portela. Portela claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 77 percent.

The most dominating FCM player was without a doubt L. Pinheiro. E. Hodd was a disappointment, however. Portela's top performer was clearly P. Ambryszewski. A. Patrocínio on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 6.
