previous 4/4 next 2/4  Scalabisport 0 - 9 Pumas (386291980)

It had rained all day, but 16565 hardy fans still made it out to Complexo dos Sonhos. Bart Miller was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Dags Krivmans and Timo Vaher. A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Scalabisport. Lineup: Anes - Oldenziel, Queirós Silva - Fonte, Jasiński, Marzoratti, Ostermann, Thadden - Duarte, Calì, Grieš.

Pumas tactics involved an interesting 4-5-1 combination. Starters: Éder - Kraft, Bass, Karahan, Escuteiro - Bengler, Beiersee, Kaistinen, Rolfsson, Brygier - Liepiņš.

Right from the start it was obvious that Pumas were expecting an easy victory. E. Escuteiro was struggling to make the ball dance with his usual trickery and panache, and the opposing players had little trouble shutting him down in these muddy conditions. After 12 minutes, Pumas put themselves up 0 - 1, as J. Rolfsson finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. After 29 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave J. Rolfsson a chance to increase the lead for Pumas, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 2. A penalty was awarded after 34 minutes, and K. Liepiņš made the most of his chance to put Pumas up by another goal. 0 - 3 for the visitors. Pumas increased the lead to 0 - 4 as K. Liepiņš scored from the penalty spot, putting the ball in near the top left corner. After this, you could see that the players of Pumas were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. The visitors' C. Bass took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 37 minutes into the match. 0 - 5 for Pumas. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 5. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Pumas, with 73 percent of the ball.

G. Calì spent most of the time in a heap on the ground today, his normally rapid movement hindered by the slippery pitch. The home crowd cheered when, after 68 minutes, W. Beiersee's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. 69 minutes in, Pumas's J. Rolfsson received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Scalabisport were forced into a substitution as M. Jasiński couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing S. Acosta to come in off the bench. W. Beiersee came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over M. Anes but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. Pumas's E. Bengler was dominating his wing and kept sending fine balls into the opposition's box - K. Liepiņš managed to volley one of them into the net to make it 0 - 6 after 75 minutes. By then K. Liepiņš had scored three goals - a hat trick! After 78 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed W. Beiersee to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 7. E. Bengler received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 80 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 8. The Pumas fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. Scalabisport's R. Ostermann had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 82 minutes having been played. M. Nisipeanu was the replacement. Some fine movement on the left led to a Pumas goal after 84 minutes, making it 0 - 9. W. Beiersee was noted down as the scorer. Pumas enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 86 percent of possession.

Scalabisport's top performer was clearly F. Duarte. On the other hand, D. Thadden's play was disheartening. Pumas's best player was W. Beiersee. F. Éder on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 9.
