19000 spectators had come to Estádio dos Campeões this cloudy day. Marcelo Gallardo was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Sverre Lilletvedt and Ingemar Hilboezen. KIL@S had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. They fielded: Anello - Hülsen, Bonilla, Santana - Bloemen, Aksu, Freitas, Silva Bento - Barros Pinto, Inácio, Pinto.

After a fine move down the middle N. Broome nearly gave the home side a goal after 19 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. 20 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but M. Silva Bento, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide. The guests took the lead 21 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in N. Pinto scoring to make it 0 - 1. D. Ratzon could have scored for S.M.D. with his free kick after 33 minutes, but the visitors' keeper just managed to get a hand on it. With a shot curled in from just outside the middle of the penalty area after 35 minutes played, L. Cestr of S.M.D. made the score 1 - 1. With 37 minutes played, G. Michelotti of S.M.D. fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. After 38 minutes, KIL@S's M. Silva Bento made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 1 - 2. It was 1 - 2 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by S.M.D., with 51 percent of the ball.

The KIL@S players could smell victory in the air. Ó. Barros Pinto wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for J. Pombas after 46 minutes. After the ball was lifted in from the left, R. Santana was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 48 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. S.M.D. tried to even things up by sending a long ball towards the centrally placed strikers, but the visitors' defence got the best of this rather direct style of play. With 78 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed F. Hülsen of KIL@S to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 3. KIL@S had most of the ball, with 52 percent of possession.

S.M.D.'s top performer was clearly H. Dhiab. J. Planque turned in a dismal performance, however. E. Inácio performed admirably for KIL@S. M. Silva Bento was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 3.
