previous 3/4 next 1/4  Lisbon 3 - 1 Dragons (386677796)

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 10707 at Colosseum today. Kostas Diavatis was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Joshua Hoek and Vlastimil Cetl. Lisbon tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players took the field: Amendoeira - Alves, Torres, Bravo, Lemos - da Fonseca, Bidarra, Pragana, Noya - Marchante, Vaz Martins.

Dragons started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. Lineup: Pinheiro Alves - Antunes, Assis, Barskiy, Serôdio - Moura, Moreira Rocha, Dias, Soares Teixeira - de Carvalho, Vieira.

Dragons made it 0 - 1 as J. Dias got a touch to the floated corner kick and flicked the ball to J. Vieira who whipped a low drive in off the far post. Lisbon's C. da Fonseca refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 11 minutes. Lisbon's A. Pragana made a successful breakthrough on the left after 17 minutes and should have levelled the score, but instead he clipped it over the bar. With a shot curled in from just outside the middle of the penalty area after 26 minutes played, H. Marchante of Lisbon made the score 1 - 1. With 40 minutes played A. Noya almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide. The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when J. Vieira was unable to put the ball in the net after his show of skill down the left 41 minutes into the match. He was seen beating the pitch in frustration at missing such a good chance to give his team the lead! It was 1 - 1 at the break. Lisbon claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

Dragons's opponents know to be wary of A. de Carvalho's speed, but it made little difference as he flew past the defence 80 minutes into the game. Only the keeper could stop him - and he did with a perfectly timed dive! With 81 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 2 - 1 lead as I. Torres flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. T. Alves could have increased the lead after 82 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. É. Bravo behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 84 minutes as he gave the ball away to J. Vieira. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. A swift counterattack by Lisbon resulted in a free kick that T. Alves elegantly twisted into the goal - 3 - 1! Lisbon had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.

Lisbon's top performer was clearly É. Bravo. J. Lemos on the other hand, had a terrible day. Dragons's best player was D. Moreira Rocha. A. Assis turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 3 - 1.
