The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 12000 had shown up at
Karori Park for the match.
Jochen Steimer-Lenz was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Pat Humphries and
José Leonardo Hormaza.
Irishmen started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
Lineup: Cage - Mak, Te Potangaroa, Rege, McDonald - Hutter, Birmingham, Morrin, Roozendaal - Lynch, Whangae.
MPR decided to use a 5-4-1 set up.
Starters: Vanderstam - Çıtel, Segura, McCall, Cifré, Gülen - Pypers, Rolbiecki, Villaça, Conceição - Amigó.
With 23 minutes gone, MPR had a free kick in a decent position. Despite this being a great chance for a shot, they tried a cheeky move intended to bypass the defence. However,
J. Amigó did not manage to connect with it cleanly and the ball went out.
After 27 minutes, MPR's
M. Cifré made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1.
The visitors'
J. Amigó took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 29 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for MPR.
After this, you could see that the players of MPR were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
Some fine movement on the left led to a MPR goal after 41 minutes, making it 0 - 3.
M. Villaça was noted down as the scorer.
H. Pypers was, after 42 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper
N. Cage made the save.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 3.
MPR had most of the ball, with 85 percent of possession.
After 53 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed
M. Villaça to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 4.
The coach of MPR was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 55 minutes,
M. Rosdt came on for
E. Rolbiecki.
M. Villaça left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 55 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
A. Hunsel was the replacement.
The referee showed MPR's
L. Conceição the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
M. Rosdt of MPR took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 70 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 5.
J. Amigó received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 79 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 6. The MPR fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
A drive down the left side allowed
M. Cifré to get in close and score another goal for MPR after 81 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 7.
After 82 minutes, Irishmen's
S. Whangae fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit!
MPR increased their lead after 83 minutes when
A. Hunsel broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 8, much to the home crowd's dismay.
With 84 minutes played,
M. Gülen of MPR fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
MPR claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 87 percent.
T. Morrin performed admirably for Irishmen.
On the other hand,
S. Hutter's play was disheartening.
MPR's top performer was clearly
D. Vanderstam.
M. McCall turned in a dismal performance, however.
