previous 2/4 next 4/4  Batangas 2 - 0 Ericsson (387129093)

7000 punters turned up at Batangas Camp, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Frederik Bergwerff was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Berend Kluin and Juan Carlos Panussi. Batangas tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players took the field: Timbad - Sandigan, Sumagaysay, Salipan, Pahila - del Valle, Hao-Tian, Lopez, Silencino - Forteza, Tinagan.

Ericsson started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. Starters: Luis - San Antonio, Cabral, Tiu, Peñaflor - Adducul, Macapagal, Te, Patil - Ildefonso, Won.

Batangas's A. Sandigan was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 12 minutes. At 18 minutes played, P. Silencino came in from the right with the intention of giving Batangas the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. After 19 minutes, a counter attack by Ericsson was converted into a decent free kick opportunity. However, the indirect free kick routine was easily anticipated by the defenders. A textbook example of how to defend a free kick - the attackers were left with few viable options. Ericsson's N. Patil was shown a yellow card after 21 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Batangas's A. Sandigan refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 22 minutes. With 25 minutes having been played, his teammates looked on in disbelief as A. Peñaflor thoughtlessly misplayed the ball, setting up Batangas's G. del Valle for an easy goal. 1 - 0. R. Lopez should probably have put his team up another goal after 28 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by R. Luis kept the visitors in the game. It was 1 - 0 at the break. Batangas had most of the ball, with 56 percent of possession.

58 minutes into the game, Batangas were awarded a penalty that A. Sandigan turned into 2 - 0 without a problem. S. Tinagan could have increased the lead after 63 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. A free kick just outside of the visitors' penalty area after 66 minutes could have resulted in another goal, but R. Luis got a hand out and tipped the ball over the bar. With 69 minutes played, F. Forteza of Batangas fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Batangas, with 60 percent of the ball.

Most important Batangas player was R. Lopez. A. Timbad on the other hand, had a terrible day. Ericsson's top performer was clearly C. Adducul. However, E. Cabral made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 2 - 0.
