previous 9/10 next 1/10  Żabinka 2 - 0 Barbarossa (387286417)

Dark skies made the crowd of 38573 at Estadio la Rana a little nervous, but the rain held off. José-Carlos Lafenetre was the appointed referee with assistance provided by David Druet and Vladimiro Mayo. Żabinka started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Starters: Barbadilla - Dompeling, Delord, Pugliese - Vesan, Torabi, MacKowne, Sekulski, 融坚 (Rongjian) - Arczyński, Urtnowski.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Barbarossa. The following players had been chosen: Sava - Castells, Gerdbratt, Chourmouzis, Jongeneel - Mezey, Licona, Redondo, Cornaggia - Ayman, Tadaj.

For their match strategy, Barbarossa had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. With 4 minutes played S. Urtnowski almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide. At 5 minutes played, S. Torabi came in from the right with the intention of giving Żabinka the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, 叶. 融坚 (Rongjian) got himself booked. The manager of Żabinka was not happy. After 26 minutes, the defensive line of Barbarossa created a counterattack through the middle that gave F. Cornaggia a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 0. Żabinka claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 73 percent.

Many thought S. Urtnowski ought to have been awarded a penalty 59 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around C. Sava after a determined run through the middle. With 60 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Barbarossa resulted in a counterattack that set P. Castells free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. Żabinka took the lead 63 minutes in, as S. Torabi broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. Żabinka put themselves up 2 - 0 when M. Arczyński broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave F. Cornaggia from Barbarossa a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 68 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! 叶. 融坚 (Rongjian) could have put Żabinka up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 69 minutes. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Żabinka, with 75 percent of the ball.

Żabinka's best player was P. Sekulski. 叶. 融坚 (Rongjian) was a disappointment, however. Most important Barbarossa player was C. Sava. V. Chourmouzis turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 2 - 0.
