Clouds darkened the skies at
Stadion am Prater as 34517 spectators turned up for the match.
Tomek Kapela was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Anton Yuzpullenko and
István Zöld.
A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Concordia.
The following players took the field: Zeltzer - Rant, Hinteregger - Day, Günther, Österreicher, Valdinoci, Abitera - Krappe, García Reignier, Schimscheimer.
Veilchen started off with a 3-4-3 lineup.
Starters: Kogler - Fink, Ebner, Wanek - Ferrari, Stövsand, Vera Cordero, Csirik - Lazic, Loidl, Tomás.
Concordia broke through on the left 18 minutes into the game, with
W. Günther firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead.
H. Heinisch was called on to replace Veilchen's
G. Loidl after 29 minutes following a nasty collision.
Concordia's
W. Günther saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 33 minutes.
After 34 minutes, the visitors tied it up at 1 - 1 when a fantastic pass from the left was finished off by
D. Lazic.
Down the middle came
G. Ebner, making a fantastic play that nearly had Veilchen take the lead after 35 minutes, but
A. Zeltzer preserved the tie.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 1.
Possession in this half belonged to Concordia, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.
The celebrations in the stands could only mean one thing -
M. García Reignier's free kick had found the back of the net and put Concordia ahead 2 - 1!
Almost all the way down to the corner flag, Veilchen's
M. Ferrari somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for
H. Heinisch, who struck for 2 - 2.
After 59 minutes, the Veilchen coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
M. Ferrari off the field.
S. Epifani took his place.
The referee showed Veilchen's
S. Epifani the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
Concordia were forced into a substitution as
R. Abitera couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing
F. Benetazzo to come in off the bench.
Concordia enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.
Most important Concordia player was
M. García Reignier.
On the other hand,
F. Benetazzo's play was disheartening.
The most dominating Veilchen player was without a doubt
D. Lazic.
However,
F. Kogler made a disastrous appearance.
