A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 15516 to
Wiener Staatsoper Arena.
Bryan Stanley was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ibrahim El-Ismail and
Ângelo de Carvalho.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Symphoniker.
Lineup: Dondé - Klimeš, Gonoboblev, Eckstein - Tapia, Dehlblom, Meira, Barragán, Hurtado Zaldívar - Roseeuw, Drobesch.
Sägemühlen had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
The following players took the field: Mühlengrund - Goldberg, La Cava, Amby - Stark, Daniel, Kremin, Kekkonen - Herva, Wawra, Nosko.
Sägemühlen's
A. Nosko managed to lose the defenders as he advanced down the right wing and scored, putting the visitors ahead after 8 minutes. 0 - 1.
After 10 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
A. Nosko who increased Sägemühlen's lead to 0 - 2.
R. Meira's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some breathtaking tricks that bamboozled the defence.
R. Tapia challenged the visitors' central defence eagerly, producing a good chance 23 minutes into the game as he went for a through ball. But, as so many times before, the guests' defensive efforts got the best of it.
Symphoniker's
K. Klimeš found himself alone on the left side 33 minutes into the match and laid down a perfect shot - right into the arms of the keeper!
Halftime score was 0 - 2.
Possession in this half belonged to Symphoniker, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.
Sägemühlen's
E. Goldberg made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 70 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
Usually a powerful player on the field,
S. Barragán looked kind of pale and tired under the hot sun.
After 72 minutes
T. Dehlblom could have reduced the lead with a blistering strike from the left wing, had it not been for an excellent block by the visitors' keeper.
N. Amby finished off the counterattack of Sägemühlen from the left rather easily, making the score 0 - 3.
The players of Sägemühlen now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
S. La Cava received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 80 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 4. The Sägemühlen fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
With 84 minutes played,
E. Goldberg nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar.
Symphoniker enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 56 percent of possession.
Symphoniker's best player was
H. Drobesch.
E. Gonoboblev was a disappointment, however.
Sägemühlen's top performer was clearly
S. La Cava.
On the other hand,
N. Kekkonen's play was disheartening.
The match ends 0 - 4.
