A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 35083 to
Benki stadium.
Fredrik Jonasson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Jan Nes and
Alexander Karlsen.
The derby had been the talk of
Stockholm all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium.
Benki decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
Starters: Knutsson - Alexandersson, Everborg, Widerbo, Tellgren - Hjortgård, Vähäuski, Radochoński, Sjösten - Anderling, Persson.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Tottenham.
They fielded: Erlius - Henriksson, Olsson, Ehndahl, Hörnmar - Ntsibande, Davidsson, Kvarnbrant, Linholt - Oskarsson, Eriksson.
Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 12 minutes into the match left Tottenham's
J. Oskarsson completely free to score. 0 - 1 for the visitors.
T. Ehndahl still has a lot to learn. For instance, he should know not to make half-hearted passes in front of
J. Persson, who easily scored for Benki, making it 1 - 1.
36 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Benki to take the lead after a good cross from the right found
A. Vähäuski alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post.
Tottenham's
K. Eriksson managed to lose the defenders as he advanced down the right wing and scored, putting the visitors ahead after 37 minutes. 1 - 2.
Tottenham had to make a substitution after 40 minutes.
J. Oskarsson limped off the field and was replaced by
K. Chlomidis.
O. Grönland was called on to replace Benki's
J. Sjösten after 41 minutes following a nasty collision.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 2.
Tottenham claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.
L. Olsson could have put his team up another goal 52 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post.
O. Widerbo's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some breathtaking tricks that bamboozled the defence.
70 minutes into the match, Benki's
P. Alexandersson maneuvered his way around the opposition on the left flank, delighting the crowd with his twists and turns. The effort paid off as the ball found the back of the net, evening the score at 2 - 2.
72 minutes into the game,
A. Kvarnbrant was a hair's breadth away from giving Tottenham the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by
R. Knutsson saved the home team that time.
Tottenham's
D. Davidsson gave the visitors a 2 - 3 lead after 82 minutes with a superb strike from the right.
Tottenham had most of the ball, with 54 percent of possession.
Benki's top performer was clearly
J. Persson.
However,
R. Knutsson made a disastrous appearance.
The most dominating Tottenham player was without a doubt
L. Olsson.
On the other hand,
O. Erlius's play was disheartening.
The match ends 2 - 3.
