Clouds darkened the skies at
Mercer Arena as 18250 spectators turned up for the match.
Bas Ellenbroek was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Stephen Guite and
Mario Bocchio.
Mercer had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Åhlstedt - Hansson, Hansson, Hansson, Carlsson - Larsson, Olsson, Valve, Hjorthall - Gransten, Granen.
beastie decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Ćetojević - Hansson, Stålgård, Carlsson, Cronskog - Yngvesson, Tilling, Cosentino, Öhrmo - Borgstål, Carlsson.
They were singing the praises of
M. Carlsson 6 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Mercer.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
C. Cosentino got himself booked. The manager of beastie was not happy.
R. Carlsson received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 23 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Mercer scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
J. Hansson after 32 minutes.
There was concern in the stands when, at the 35 minute mark, Mercer's
M. Valve hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
A. Hjorthall from Mercer a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 37 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
B. Borgstål of beastie had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game.
R. Johansson came in to finish the match.
2 - 0 was the halftime score.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Mercer, with 61 percent of the ball.
Mercer's
A. Hjorthall increased the lead to 3 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 53 minutes.
beastie's
J. Hansson was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 63 minutes.
With 71 minutes gone, beastie's
C. Cosentino had to leave the pitch after talking back to the referee and receiving his second booking.
Against a lesser team, Mercer could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 74 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save.
F. Gransten increased the lead for Mercer to 4 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
After this, you could see that the players of Mercer were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
Possession in this half belonged to Mercer, who controlled the ball 72 percent of the time.
M. Valve performed admirably for Mercer.
J. Hansson was a disappointment, however.
The most dominating beastie player was without a doubt
M. Yngvesson.
However,
A. Ćetojević made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 4 - 0.
