Newcastal 1 - 1 Sugar (388467039)

12000 spectators had come to Newcastal Arena this cloudy day. Felix Petreanu was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gilles Wolter and Ferenc Deelder. Newcastal decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. Lineup: Sumaye - Madeje, Moshi, Mkono, Lwanji - Kigwalilo, Rwilomba, Khalfan, Mshangama - Zungu, Mkapa.

Sugar tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Dewji - Chenge, Kusila, Kallimbah, Missanga - Nsanzugwanko, Lwanji, Ngoyai, Nyalandu - Komba, Costa.

After 23 minutes, Newcastal were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. S. Khalfan did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave C. Kallimbah from Sugar a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 26 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Sugar had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 34 minutes in when J. Chenge came up alone against R. Sumaye who managed a block. The referee showed Newcastal's L. Lwanji the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Unfortunately for Sugar, P. Lwanji was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. C. Malecela replaced him. Newcastal had a chance to take the lead after A. Moshi's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 38 minutes. After some beautiful movement down the left wing, F. Mshangama scored for Newcastal putting them ahead 1 - 0, after 39 minutes. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Newcastal, who controlled the ball 58 percent of the time.

A. Moshi should probably have put his team up another goal after 50 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by M. Dewji kept the visitors in the game. J. Costa finished off a quick charge from the left of the field by chipping the ball just past the home side's keeper, making the score 1 - 1 60 minutes into the match. C. Malecela came close to putting the visiting team one up 64 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but R. Sumaye managed to tip the ball to a corner. 65 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Newcastal to take the lead after a good cross from the right found G. Kigwalilo alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Newcastal, with 54 percent of the ball.

Newcastal's top performer was clearly S. Khalfan. R. Sumaye on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Sugar player was without a doubt E. Komba. C. Kallimbah turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 1 - 1.
