It had rained all day, but 31303 hardy fans still made it out to
Wolves of Mibu Stadium.
Gianfranco Pala was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Aimo Taliani and
Trond Sæterdal.
Everyone was excited about the upcoming
Central derby and the crowd was divided evenly.
Shinsengumi decided to use a 5-3-2 set up.
Starters: Vidigal - Mihai, Gedik, Ventura, Kalliosaari, Bokelaar - Troška, Bernardini, Gabriëls - Infulati, Puchatek.
FESKYS started off with a 4-5-1 lineup.
The following players took the field: Faruk - Tholen, Merlen, Stern, Batlle - Tendeng, Clauss, Saive, Litjens, Arsoy - Houmann Jensen.
Shinsengumi were relying on their ability to counter-attack.
FESKYS demonstrated their creative tactics on the field.
20 minutes into the match, FESKYS nearly took the lead, as
M. Tholen broke through on the right.
O. Vidigal made the save, however.
S. Clauss didn't let the weather get him down and made some great moves on the pitch in spite of the rain.
This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when
P. Houmann Jensen slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against
O. Vidigal, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes.
Shinsengumi's
S. Bokelaar was shown a yellow card after 24 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
With 30 minutes gone,
M. Infulati suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counterattack by Shinsengumi caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring.
34 minutes into the game, Shinsengumi seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to
inadequate.
The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of FESKYS's
M. Batlle after 42 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead.
It was 0 - 1 at the break.
FESKYS claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 65 percent.
A review of the gameplan helped Shinsengumi get back to a
solid organisation when the referee blew his whistle again.
Good work by the Shinsengumi defensive line after 50 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found
O. Puchatek alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide.
The bench was restless, and with 61 minutes passed Shinsengumi's coach gave
A. Vänttilä the opportunity the player had been hoping for.
O. Puchatek reluctantly left the field.
After 62 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Shinsengumi found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to
wretched.
The visitors'
D. Litjens took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 74 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for FESKYS.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Shinsengumi's
J. Bernardini was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 75 minutes.
K. Baudry was given a chance to change things around.
With 76 minutes played, FESKYS put themselves up 0 - 3 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
J. Saive.
D. Tendeng wanted to play on, but the FESKYS coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 77 minutes into the game by
S. Kirui.
S. Gedik knocked one home from a counterattack down the right wing, making the score 1 - 3 after 80 minutes.
The home crowd cheered when, after 81 minutes,
S. Merlen's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by FESKYS, with 74 percent of the ball.
Shinsengumi's best player was
K. Baudry.
O. Vidigal was a disappointment, however.
The most dominating FESKYS player was without a doubt
S. Clauss.
However,
S. Kirui made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 1 - 3.
