previous 3/10 next 5/10  Chargies 3 - 1 VM FC (388487133)

53638 spectators arrived at Kichinjio Grove, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Ronny Larsson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Desmond Visser and Bertrand Leffler. Everyone was excited about the upcoming Central derby and the crowd was divided evenly. Chargies had chosen a strategic 4-3-3 formation. They fielded: Strumskis - Tanui, Blüten, Amendola, Cantalap - Kotter, Overby, Tenreiro - Ngilu, Jentzsch, Nyariki.

VM FC started off with a 2-5-3 lineup. The following players took the field: Kaleel - Gruszewski, Pika - Lusweti, Meşale, Pricoco, Paqarizi, Kimani - Mansoor, Matiba, Zerres.

Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for VM FC. With 16 minutes played R. Jentzsch almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide. After 17 minutes, VM FC were awarded a free kick as their counter attack broke down. The set piece was lifted over the top, intended to open up the defence. However, the target man seemed to be taken by surprise, and could not reach the ball before it crossed the line for a goal kick. T. Nyariki caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 19 minutes. This gave Chargies the 1 - 0 lead. 29 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as T. Nyariki broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for Chargies. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0. Chargies claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 67 percent.

After 53 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by T. Nyariki might have resulted in another goal for Chargies. However, A. Kaleel made a spectacular save. VM FC managed to reduce the score to 2 - 1 as J. Matiba finished off a well-played combination from the left, easily carving through the defence. A. Kimani of VM FC was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. VM FC were close to putting the equaliser away after 84 minutes as the opposing defence lost control of the ball to A. Pika in a scuffle towards the left of the goal, but in the end the ball was cleared over the dead ball line. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Chargies's R. Jentzsch increasing the lead to 3 - 1. Possession in this half belonged to Chargies, who controlled the ball 66 percent of the time.

Most important Chargies player was P. Overby. M. Tanui turned in a dismal performance, however. VM FC's top performer was clearly T. Zerres. A. Kimani on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 3 - 1.
