29-07-2012 13.00
A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 33006 to
El Madrigal.
Geraldo Rocha was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Theunis Sjoerd Bessems and
Carl Christian Josefsen.
Snorro decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
Starters: Ririhena - Estébanez Zarzalejos, Ruiz, Bréant - Schifferly, Banzer, Siwy, Opprecht, Maesschalck - Bocchio, Luyckfasseel.
Batsies had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation.
The following players took the field: Surace - Schwerma, Mokrzycki, Labrique, Horaicoechea, Polidoro - Maśniak, Benne, Puppolo, Spinks - Olivier.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Batsies.
B. Luyckfasseel enjoyed the sunshine and demonstrated his stunning technique over and over again.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
S. Horaicoechea from Batsies a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 43 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Unfortunately for Snorro,
Ó. Estébanez Zarzalejos was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field.
H. van Brussel replaced him.
Batsies had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 44 minutes, but
L. Labrique's shot from the left sailed high over the bar.
Snorro were very close to putting themselves one up after 44 minutes as
J. Maesschalck got through on the left, but failing in concentration, he shot the ball wide.
Some great play up the middle by Snorro led to a chance for
A. Siwy to score after 44 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar.
With the clock showing 44 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Batsies resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by
I. Benne in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high.
It was 0 - 0 at the break.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Snorro, with 70 percent of the ball.
J. Ruiz showed why he is feared on the counterattack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for Snorro after 60 minutes to make the score 1 - 0.
67 minutes into the game Batsies managed a counterattack, but
A. Polidoro took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper.
70 minutes into the game, Batsies seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to
inadequate.
Snorro's
G. Bocchio had an excellent opportunity after 81 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles!
E. Olivier didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play.
87 minutes in, Batsies's
L. Labrique received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
The referee showed Snorro's
G. Opprecht the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
Due to a severely mistimed tackle,
E. Olivier of Batsies spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game.
Snorro enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 77 percent of possession.
The most dominating Snorro player was without a doubt
B. Luyckfasseel.
On the other hand,
H. van Brussel's play was disheartening.
L. Labrique performed admirably for Batsies.
However,
I. Benne made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 1 - 0.
