STANDARD 4 - 1 Inferno
(388519437)

29-07-2012 13.00
A scorching day at
Sclessin, where 21859 spectators were in place for today's match.
Raimundo Vaquero was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Anthony Pearson and
Alphonse Dabin.
STANDARD had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation.
Lineup: Nettis - Silva, Gudden, Hemmat, Tukiainen - Falcão, Massidda, Manaças, Verstrepen, Castillo - Limousin.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Inferno.
They fielded: Cansarp - Marchetti, Coscelli, Pais - Montironi, Dore, Boscher, Cagliostro, D'Angelantonio - Ronco, Bossone.
Inferno seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.
It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why
N. Coscelli found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork.
The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 13 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
A. Falcão, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing.
STANDARD's
S. Limousin left the field after 17 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
G. Zanolin.
Given a free kick close to the byline, STANDARD tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
P. Tukiainen slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 2 - 0, 18 minutes into the game.
The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0.
STANDARD had most of the ball, with 56 percent of possession.
58 minutes in, an amazing pass from the left side resulted in a goal for the visitors, as
G. Ronco anticipated the through ball and scored, reducing the deficit to 2 - 1.
L. Verstrepen unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide.
A. Massidda could have put STANDARD up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 64 minutes.
After 66 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
P. Tukiainen gave the STANDARD supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 1.
G. Zanolin increased the lead for STANDARD to 4 - 1, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
STANDARD enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.
STANDARD's best player was
B. Hemmat.
However,
G. Zanolin made a disastrous appearance.
Most important Inferno player was
G. Bossone.
G. Marchetti turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 4 - 1.
