Dark skies made the crowd of 12210 at Waterloo Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off. Debruut tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. Lineup: Zaborowski - Zorzano, Froreich, D'Elia, Torreira - Tolgay, Clooney, Gilsing, Klietsch - Corcuera, Mesimäki.

United clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. A lunatic dribble by A. Torreira, in front of his own keeper, set up United's E. Vermeerbergen for an embarrassingly easy strike after 20 minutes. 1 - 0! E. Vermeerbergen could have increased the lead after 34 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. After 42 minutes United's M. Català contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. M. Saarnikoski should probably have put his team up another goal after 43 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by H. Zaborowski kept the visitors in the game. Debruut's counterattacks created a good chance for I. Corcuera on the right after 44 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar. 1 - 0 was the halftime score. United claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 62 percent.

51 minutes in, the unpredictable N. Hidien of United turned and curled the ball towards goal, but it flew inches wide of the post, almost taking out a member of the crowd! United solidified their lead at the 53 minute mark, as M. Català dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 2 - 0. After 59 minutes, United's M. Saarnikoski found the back of the goal with a beautiful free kick. 3 - 0. The players of United now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. A great save by keeper H. Zaborowski after 68 minutes kept the visitors in the game after M. Català struck from the left with a real cannonball. After 78 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by J. Kaiser might have resulted in another goal for United. However, H. Zaborowski made a spectacular save. United had most of the ball, with 70 percent of possession.

Most important United player was E. Vermeerbergen. However, F. Häfliger made a disastrous appearance. Debruut's top performer was clearly D. Froreich. W. Clooney was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 0.
