previous 3/4 next 1/4  As 2 - 2 EDU (388891478)

Clouds darkened the skies at Ali Sami Yen Arena as 48645 spectators turned up for the match. Jan Marcusson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Meir Porat and Thieu Snel. As tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players took the field: Mañón - López de Haro, Gutiérrez, Ghedin - Unzueta, Andersson, Darith, Vejdělek, Payten - Maestre Salinas, Deckert.

EDU started off with a 4-3-3 lineup. Starters: Temam - Kara, bin Rasdi, Örüner, Magg - Volontè, Selçukkan, Biała - Yusta, Zaryjczyk, Sernaz.

EDU clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. EDU's A. Sernaz was shown a yellow card after 17 minutes for slicing down an opponent. J. Maestre Salinas was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so As's K. Salurbey had to come off the bench. After 21 minutes, As sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached K. Salurbey, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 1 - 0. T. Kara sailed high above the opponents as he headed in a corner kick from J. Zaryjczyk after 31 minutes of play, making the score 1 - 1. With the clock showing 40 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of EDU resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by T. Magg in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. C. Ghedin got left behind when EDU's A. Sernaz made a sudden run forward after 41 minutes, finishing off with a neat strike. 1 - 2! It was 1 - 2 at the break. As enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 67 percent of possession.

After 60 minutes, As used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. The As players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, R. Payten got himself booked. The manager of As was not happy. E. Yusta was, after 65 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper F. Mañón made the save. With 70 minutes played, the As coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Ö. Canol came on, R. Payten had to leave the fray. The As equaliser came after 86 minutes when M. Vejdělek floated in a free kick making the score 2 - 2. E. Yusta of EDU was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. As had a chance to take the lead after M. Vejdělek's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 89 minutes. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by As, with 64 percent of the ball.

The most dominating As player was without a doubt T. Deckert. K. Salurbey on the other hand, had a terrible day. EDU's top performer was clearly A. Sernaz. However, B. bin Rasdi made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 2 - 2.
