The 31948 spectators at X-men Arena were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Joël Pointeau was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Enzo Gasche and David Breacker. Volvorine started off with a 4-5-1 lineup. Starters: Goes - Radošević, Baldeón, Steivortzel, Arıcan - Shen, Borgsjö, Eby, Gurdziel, Erdener - Rageth.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for AYDINSPOR. The following players took the field: del Castillo - Çapkur, Barnøe, Stănescu, Maksum - Gündoğdu, Isenborghs, Kopili, Güleryüz - Poblete, Pilgerstorfer.

Volvorine clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. It was an obvious ambition of AYDINSPOR to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. With 6 minutes showing on the scoreboard, Volvorine had a chance to take the lead after being awarded a penalty, but N. Eby's shot was blocked by H. del Castillo. D. Kopili's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some breathtaking tricks that bamboozled the defence. Given a free kick close to the byline, Volvorine tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let V. Radošević slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 1 - 0, 17 minutes into the game. The score became 2 - 0 at 27 minutes into the game, when Volvorine were given a penalty which N. Eby blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance! At this point, it was obvious that the players of Volvorine lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. 37 minutes into the match, AYDINSPOR replied and reduced the lead to 2 - 1. O. Isenborghs scored on a marvellous cross pass coming in from the left. It was 2 - 1 at the break. Volvorine claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 62 percent.

AYDINSPOR's D. Gündoğdu had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 47 minutes having been played. G. Pervane was the replacement. Volvorine had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. M. Rageth squirmed through their central defence after 60 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 1. S. Erdener wanted to play on, but the Volvorine coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 68 minutes into the game by L. Harte. The Volvorine players could smell victory in the air. A. Gurdziel wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for P. Cruz Souza after 71 minutes. L. Steivortzel left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 74 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. J. Garcia was the replacement. It was obvious that team Volvorine had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. The counterattacks of AYDINSPOR were deadly and 78 minutes into the game, F. Pilgerstorfer received a nice pass from the right flank, making it 3 - 2. Coming through the middle Ö. Güleryüz almost scored the equaliser for AYDINSPOR after 82 minutes, but W. Goes made an excellent save, tipping the awkwardly curled shot past the post. Possession in this half belonged to Volvorine, who controlled the ball 63 percent of the time.

Most important Volvorine player was J. Borgsjö. L. Harte was a disappointment, however. AYDINSPOR's top performer was clearly T. Poblete. G. Pervane on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 3 - 2.
