The 12000 fans in attendance at FB 23 ATATÜRK were roasting in the hot sun. Fiorenzo Rusconi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ruggiero Anolli and Thomas Marenholtz. FB mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle. ÇaYKeNaRı were relying on their ability to counter-attack. Good work by the ÇaYKeNaRı defensive line after 4 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found B. Queirós alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. After 9 minutes, FB's J. Santos Alves fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! The visitors were very close to gaining the lead with a marvellous free kick after 16 minutes, but Y. Gür made a beautiful one-handed save. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave M. Martin from FB a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 26 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 0. FB claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 75 percent.

It wasn't a good day at all for K. Naşit. His powerful style of play just didn't fit the bill on this warm day. After 87 minutes ÇaYKeNaRı tried to exploit their counterattacking skills, unfortunately, J. Hansson's shot sailed wide after his break down the right. The celebrations in the stands could only mean one thing - S. van Vuuren's free kick had found the back of the net and put FB ahead 1 - 0! It was obvious that team FB had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. F. Schilirò should probably have put his team up another goal after 89 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by L. Güvener kept the visitors in the game. FB enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 77 percent of possession.

Most important FB player was A. Dani. M. Martin turned in a dismal performance, however. L. Güvener performed admirably for ÇaYKeNaRı. However, M. Artunduaga made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 1 - 0.
