It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 17277 that came out to
Massacrew Arena.
Brandon MacCooish was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Antti Lindros and
Rickard Klintell.
The derby had been the talk of
İstanbul all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Massacrew.
The following players had been chosen: Omenainen - Karner, Leyva, Toplu, Violi - Sezay, Oluk, Penha Filho, Naip - Durulca, Candaner.
günbağı started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Starters: Krankkala - Başkurt, Fuzeta, Vunderink - Bozdemir, Sastre, De Quint, Di Gioia, Sırma - Esen, Emin.
Massacrew demonstrated their creative tactics on the field.
The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 4 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
C. Naip, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing.
The home team will be cursing
K. Esen for weeks; he finished off a great pass from the left, knocking it past the keeper without a problem. The match was level at 1 - 1 after 22 minutes.
1 - 2 was the score with 25 minutes played, after
E. Emin cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for günbağı.
A drive down the left side allowed
E. Emin to get in close and score another goal for günbağı after 28 minutes, taking the score to 1 - 3.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 3.
günbağı enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 70 percent of possession.
With 50 minutes gone, Massacrew had a free kick in a decent position. Despite this being a great chance for a shot, they tried a cheeky move intended to bypass the defence. However,
J. Leyva did not manage to connect with it cleanly and the ball went out.
After 66 minutes,
K. Vunderink sent the corner kick right to
J. Sastre who headed it sharply past the keeper. 1 - 4!
The referee signalled a penalty 83 minutes into the game following an offence which looked like it was outside the box.
K. Vunderink knocked it home to make the score 1 - 5.
The players of günbağı now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
84 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 1 - 6 as
K. Vunderink finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick.
Some fine movement on the left led to a günbağı goal after 85 minutes, making it 1 - 7.
G. De Quint was noted down as the scorer.
Several players seemed a little dazed by the warm weather, and were repeatedly tricked by the clever and agile
C. Di Gioia.
After 88 minutes, günbağı's
G. De Quint burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 8.
günbağı claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 77 percent.
Most important Massacrew player was
L. Penha Filho.
On the other hand,
Ş. Candaner's play was disheartening.
günbağı's best player was
E. Emin.
However,
J. Sastre made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 1 - 8.
