previous 7/10 next 9/10  Başkent 5 - 0 galatasaray (389012599)

6035 fans braved the pouring rain at AnkaraGücü. Niklas Aspenbom was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Per B. Bengtsson and Stéphane Cavalli. Başkent decided to use a 2-5-3 set up. They fielded: Bulava - Aguilar, Valdés - Kotur, Hawk, Davidsson, Pritoni, Bilić - Mergola, Cecinato, Hinteregger.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for galatasaray. The following players took the field: Güvençtürk - Baykır, Tansık, Kahveci, Tarhan - Sarı, Ayçiçek, Oben, Rona - Birhan, Gedikbay.

Başkent tried to focus their attacks down the middle. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to S. Hinteregger, but the Başkent player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! Ç. Kahveci, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass. With 20 minutes played, Başkent put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to F. Mergola, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. After 35 minutes, P. Pritoni put Başkent ahead 3 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. The players of Başkent now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. 3 - 0 was the halftime score. Başkent claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 64 percent.

60 minutes into the game, M. Sarı had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came A. Orbek. N. Cecinato increased Başkent's lead to 4 - 0 with a penalty spot cannonball. Başkent's N. Cecinato somehow missed a penalty 73 minutes into the match, much to the crowd's displeasure. galatasaray's T. Oben was shown a yellow card after 79 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. S. Hinteregger squirmed through their central defence after 84 minutes, increasing the lead to 5 - 0. Başkent enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 66 percent of possession.

Most important Başkent player was S. Hinteregger. However, S. Kotur made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating galatasaray player was without a doubt T. Rona. N. Güvençtürk on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 5 - 0.
