Dark skies made the crowd of 70844 at
NANA FC Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Ivan Fabricius was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Valentin Cucu and
Varun van Heukelom.
NANA had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation.
They fielded: Santorum - Rampinini, Kaggwa, Musoke, Guyard, Vañó - Nyalandu, Gallotti, Michaeli - Balyejjusa, González.
kampala decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Telani - Pitarch, Poşircă, Židić, Brusadelli - Canu, Otim, Perret, Christiansen - Montalvo Galán, Moura Filho.
For their match strategy, NANA had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible.
A. Poşircă's lack of experience almost gave NANA a goal after 2 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms.
6 minutes in, NANA's
D. Musoke received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
The counterattack by NANA resulted in a free kick that
T. Balyejjusa bent under the crossbar - 1 - 0!
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
E. González from NANA a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 37 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
1 - 0 was the score after the first half.
kampala claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 74 minutes,
P. Canu broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper.
S. Santorum made a great block, though.
75 minutes into the game,
M. Gallotti finished off a NANA left wing counterattack, making the score 2 - 0.
By now, the players in NANA felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
A counterattack by NANA after 88 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but
T. Balyejjusa, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by kampala, with 62 percent of the ball.
M. Gallotti performed admirably for NANA.
T. Balyejjusa was a disappointment, however.
The most dominating kampala player was without a doubt
L. Perret.
However,
P. Canu made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 2 - 0.
