previous 4/10 next 6/10  Sous-marin 0 - 5 BIG (389261855)

Due to an all-day shower, 12000 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Deep Blue. Guido Casanova was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Hennes Bonnus and Beni Salvel. Sous-marin tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Kayizi - Bajope, Makalama, Player, Lule - Otim, Oryema-Lalobo, Seguya, Mwisaka - Odoch, Lamwaka.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for BIG. The following players took the field: Buzabaliao - Okello, Morrow, Kalungi - Magumba, Babadi, Odong, Okurut, Gonza - Museveni, Muwanga.

BIG used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. BIG took the lead 2 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle. Y. Okurut was the scorer. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave D. Museveni from BIG a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 26 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! 26 minutes into the match, R. Muwanga came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. With 27 minutes played, R. Muwanga nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. F. Odong of BIG took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 28 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 2. 0 - 2 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to BIG, who controlled the ball 72 percent of the time.

It was obvious that team BIG had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. After 52 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Y. Okurut who increased BIG's lead to 0 - 3. Confident in their lead, BIG's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. After 56 minutes, BIG's D. Museveni burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 4. I. Okello did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch. The head of A. Babadi connected with a corner kick after 81 minutes, and the ball ended up with H. Kalungi of BIG who blasted the ball into the net, making the score 0 - 5. The home crowd cheered when, after 85 minutes, A. Gonza's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. Y. Okurut was, after 88 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper D. Kayizi made the save. BIG enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 73 percent of possession.

Most important Sous-marin player was R. Odoch. On the other hand, N. Lamwaka's play was disheartening. D. Magumba performed admirably for BIG. D. Morrow was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 5.
