The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 40840 had shown up at
Roberto Baggio Stadium for the match.
Niculae Sitaru was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Iuliu Podeanu and
Márcio Fraga.
Brescia started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Koneski - Carmo, Popa, Bordin - Pállson, Matouk, González, Mansourian, Urwyler - Cozzella, Çetiner.
Surena had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
They fielded: Aydın - Dury, Vargas, Atzeni - Bergamaschi, Ribé, Bobeico, Ducrot, Pelage - Kasiri, Azizzadeh.
Brescia's
T. Pállson got himself booked for a foul.
G. Cozzella has acquired a talent for predicting the movements of the opposing defence over the years and this almost resulted in a goal 19 minutes into the match.
Brescia broke through on the left 21 minutes into the game, with
C. Popa firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead.
Surena had a chance to level the score as
N. Kasiri suddenly found himself free in the middle of the box with only the keeper to beat, but he misjudged the finish, and only managed to hit the bar.
U. Aydın was caught napping as
K. Mansourian lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper's arms.
Brescia's
E. Çetiner refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 28 minutes.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0.
Brescia claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.
With 60 minutes played, Brescia put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
E. Çetiner, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
Always a threat,
G. Cozzella tore past his marker and placed the ball right at the feet of the waiting
E. Çetiner who should have easily scored for Brescia, but the ball went wide.
The Surena coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change strategy.
As the game started to slip away for Surena, the manager decided to change the tactical approach.
Unhappy with the result so far in the game, the Surena manager used a brief break in play after 70 minutes to give the players new directives.
After 71 minutes, Surena switched
É. Pelage with
J. Gaspar, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch.
The home side's
K. Mansourian curled a free kick home after 76 minutes, putting Brescia ahead 3 - 0.
78 minutes into the game, Surena's attack got through on the right, but
E. Atzeni couldn't handle the ball and his feeble kick wound up in the keeper's arms.
Brescia's
V. Koneski left the field after 84 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
N. Kalani.
Brescia had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
The most dominating Brescia player was without a doubt
E. Çetiner.
On the other hand,
N. Kalani's play was disheartening.
N. Kasiri performed admirably for Surena.
J. Gaspar was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 3 - 0.
