Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
Great Maradona Arena saw a crowd turnout of 44641.
Aron Grunder was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Kasper Bronsveld and
Gerhardt Klein-Müllersmann.
Maradona had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation.
They fielded: De Bournonville - Mikkolainen, Beltrame, Vuissoz, 前川 (Maekawa), Abkar - Wildeboer, Strijbos, Lénárd, Miljković - Tauernitz.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for FCS.
Starters: Conceição - Cannizzaro, Kuliševskis, Buendía, Szklarz - Alipour, Bastani, Azamian, Varppee - Maggi, Macarie.
Maradona used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
It was an obvious ambition of FCS to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Maradona, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity.
N. Lénárd caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 18 minutes. This gave Maradona the 1 - 0 lead.
Maradona solidified their lead at the 20 minute mark, as
R. Tauernitz dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 2 - 0.
The goal for 3 - 0 was a funny story: after 26 minutes the seemingly nonchalant lob from Maradona's
N. Lénárd landed at the feet of
R. Tauernitz who sidefooted it into the net - nice goal!
It was 3 - 0 at the break.
Maradona enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.
The coach of Maradona was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 46 minutes,
R. Lebas came on for
N. Lénárd.
Maradona had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks.
56 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
R. Tauernitz broke through, making the score 4 - 0 for Maradona.
This third goal completed a hattrick for
R. Tauernitz.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Maradona lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
With 76 minutes gone, FCS had a free kick in a decent position. Despite this being a great chance for a shot, they tried a cheeky move intended to bypass the defence. However,
S. Szklarz did not manage to connect with it cleanly and the ball went out.
Maradona players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead.
Maradona's
T. Wildeboer saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 77 minutes.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
M. Azamian from FCS a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 87 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
87 minutes in, FCS appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
inadequate.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Maradona, with 51 percent of the ball.
Maradona's top performer was clearly
R. Lebas.
B. Abkar turned in a dismal performance, however.
The most dominating FCS player was without a doubt
M. Macarie.
However,
J. Conceição made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 4 - 0.
