A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 36352 to
Lysets Stadion.
Roar Tyldum was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Chintak Atwal and
Alcides Vilela.
Vetterslev tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination.
Starters: Kuisat - Kneisel, Gavilán - Widerborn, Bjørge, Filtenborg, Fuenllana, Glansbeek - Di Salvo, Lifquist, van Putten.
Rieks decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Largacha - Hanhörster, Maris, Schokkaert - Butt, Vieru, Szych, Datunashvili, Wilczewski - Åkergård, Hornbach.
Rieks displayed their ability to play creatively.
20 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
K. Butt, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide.
Vetterslev were great at switching from defence to attack, and after 21 minutes,
N. Widerborn swept through the middle on a counterattack, making the score 1 - 0.
After 30 minutes, the visitors tied it up at 1 - 1 when a fantastic pass from the left was finished off by
P. Åkergård.
Rieks's
W. Wilczewski was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 38 minutes.
M. Hanhörster sailed high above the opponents as he headed in a corner kick from
P. Åkergård after 40 minutes of play, making the score 1 - 2.
Rieks came close to extending their lead as
P. Åkergård delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 41 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting.
1 - 2 was the halftime score.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Rieks, with 61 percent of the ball.
The fierce heat made it important to save breath, and after a few swift runs
L. Datunashvili found it hard to get back into position.
A drive down the left side allowed
K. Butt to get in close and score another goal for Rieks after 80 minutes, taking the score to 1 - 3.
After 82 minutes, Rieks's
L. Datunashvili burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 4.
Rieks increased their lead after 87 minutes when
H. Hornbach broke through on the right, upping the score to 1 - 5, much to the home crowd's dismay.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Rieks lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
With 89 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
M. Hanhörster of Rieks to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 6.
Rieks enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 62 percent of possession.
E. Lifquist performed admirably for Vetterslev.
N. van Putten on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The most dominating Rieks player was without a doubt
E. Szych.
On the other hand,
H. Hornbach's play was disheartening.
The match ends 1 - 6.
