A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 32127 to

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Chelsea.

Manchester started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.

Manchester seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.
Y. Mpanos enjoyed the sunshine and demonstrated his stunning technique over and over again.
Making his way up the middle 14 minutes into the match,
T. Flejsborg almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert
V. Bănuţă blocked it to keep the score level.
M. Andrisani sailed high above the opponents as he headed in a corner kick from
T. Flejsborg after 17 minutes of play, making the score 1 - 0.
The visitors refused to give in and, after 20 minutes,
J. Muijs evened things up as he finished off a perfect pass from the right. 1 - 1
26 minutes in, Manchester's

Chelsea managed to extend their lead to 3 - 1 when
B. Armberger cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
By now, the players in Chelsea felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
Chelsea solidified their lead at the 35 minute mark, as
B. Armberger dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 4 - 1.

Chelsea had most of the ball, with 60 percent of possession.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Chelsea scored another to make it 5 - 1 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
T. Flejsborg after 49 minutes.

T. Flejsborg left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 62 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
Y. Guthardt was the replacement.
Y. Guthardt was the new captain of Chelsea - handed the armband by the departing player.
The heat made it a terrible day for
T. Martinell, who seemed unable to keep up with the other players.
The coach of Chelsea was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 76 minutes,
M. Nieddu came on for
D. Drapenko.

M. Andrisani performed admirably for Chelsea.
On the other hand,
