previous 4/4 next 2/4  Fatties 1 - 2 Chaffinch (389892103)

33654 spectators had come to The Stadium of Cellulite this cloudy day. Andy Haw was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gernot Leitol and Ruben Vestrup. Fatties decided to use a 5-4-1 set up. They fielded: Matarazzo - Hasetor, Baffi, Silva, Quacquaruccio, Maher - Barboni, Spasov, Intini, Keck - Kacprzyk.

Chaffinch started off with a 2-5-3 lineup. Lineup: Scherfort - Reynier, De Pasquale - Watters, Barber, Synnott, Carey, O'Meara - Curley, Rosbach, Lunn.

Fatties used their skill at pressing to cut off the attack angles of their opponents all over the field. Chaffinch decided to play creatively. Fatties earned themselves a free kick after a counterattack wasn't dealt with adequately by their opponents. G. Barboni powered the shot in for 1 - 0. With 20 minutes played, W. Lunn came in from the right and could have evened the score, but the defenders successfully repelled the attack by Chaffinch. Fatties's B. Kacprzyk saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 22 minutes. Fatties pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. 27 minutes in, Fatties's M. Intini received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Chaffinch's C. O'Meara went down after a savage challenge, but could continue playing after some medical attention. Chaffinch levelled the score after 29 minutes to make it 1 - 1, as W. Lunn struck home after a fine midfield combination through the centre, which left him completely unmarked. J. Carey of Chaffinch received a yellow card after 31 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. The visitors could have taken the lead from a free kick after 34 minutes, if it wasn't for the jaw-dropping save by M. Matarazzo. The pressing tactics used by Fatties were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. Halftime score was 1 - 1. Chaffinch enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.

W. Lunn came close to putting the visiting team one up 47 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but M. Matarazzo managed to tip the ball to a corner. Fatties's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle. Chaffinch's M. Curley gave the visitors a 1 - 2 lead after 62 minutes with a superb strike from the right. The Chaffinch players could smell victory in the air. C. O'Meara wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for S. Kelly after 88 minutes. Chaffinch had most of the ball, with 59 percent of possession.

Most important Fatties player was M. Matarazzo. B. Kacprzyk turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating Chaffinch player was without a doubt M. Curley. S. Kelly on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 2.
